Why did I join HBSA?
I joined HBSA because I wanted to find an organization where I felt at home with people of the same culture and the same mindset of working hard and creating our path to success. Especially starting at Barrett, before ASU was officially an HSI, it was hard to find people who looked like me, spoke like me, and relates to the same culture - That is truly why our community/familia has always been the heart of this organization, and I love being a part of it so much!

Why did I join HBSA?
Initially I wanted to join hoping to find a community with similar aspirations and backgrounds to mine. As I
became more involved, I realized that the value of this organization was much more than that - it was a familia. What makes HBSA special is not only its strong sense of community but also the numerous professional and social opportunities it offers. Having had the opportunity to serve and give back to this organization has been incredibly rewarding, and I am deeply grateful for all it has provided me.

Why did I join HBSA?
I became a part of HBSA because I wanted to bring the hobbies, traditions, and habits I grew up with into my social life. I was searching for a space where I could meet people who were Hispanic American and shared a similar upbringing to mine. Since high school, I’ve loved being involved in clubs and taking on leadership roles, and HBSA was one of the first organizations I connected with at ASU. It quickly became something I was passionate about. I’ve met some of my closest friends through HBSA, built valuable connections, and opened doors to opportunities I never imagined. More than that, HBSA has become my home — a safe, welcoming space I hoped to find when I moved to Tempe. It’s helped me grow, not only professionally, but personally, and it’s a place I’ll always be grateful for.

Why did I join HBSA?
The reason I became part of HBSA is because I wanted to join a community of other Hispanics/Latinos at W. P. Carey. I wanted to be part of a community of individuals who had similar experiences as me.

Why did I join HBSA?
I became part of HBSA because I was looking for people with my same background and professional goals, but I found so much more. In a time when I felt like a small fish in a big ocean, I found a family in HBSA and people that I felt comfortable around that welcomed me with open arms, that pushed me to do and be greater, and people that inspired me to be a leader. HBSA has become my home in Tempe.

Why did I join HBSA?
I became a part of HBSA because I want to join an organization where professional development and building a familia were a priority. As a West Valley Campus Student, I wanted to broaden my connections across all different campuses and also get to experience what Tempe campus could be like. Luckily with HBSA, I was able to make lifelong friendships and also continue to learn new skills and knowledge. Aside from that, I also get to share my culture with students who are just like me.

Why did I join HBSA?
Throughout my time in ASU, i have had the privilege of serving in different leadership positions and being in other associations. However, I have never really felt like I was with “my people”. I always felt out of place in some respect and I hadn’t really found a community where I felt comfortable in.
Now, I literally cannot imagine my college experience without HBSA, making friends who I am so glad to have met, challenging my own perception of leadership and overall approach to event planning. One thing that keeps me around is helping foster the next generation of latino leaders, with so many people having amazing outlooks towards social advocacy and ideas they have for events. It is inspiring to see and seeing their like-valuedness motivates me to continue pushing my own perceptions of leadership.

Why did I join HBSA?
Growing up I always was surrounded by people who looked like me and came from the same background, coming to ASU, it felt like a culture shock. HBSA gave me the opportunity to find my community and continuously grow with people who I can always relate to.

Why did I join HBSA?
I became part of HBSA because throughout my college journey, I struggled to find an organization that was welcoming while also having the same cultural background as me. That is where I found HBSA, who greeted me with open arms. I needed a support system, a familia, to guide and mentor me throughout college. Three years into ASU, I’m finally part of an organization that treats me like familia and that's something special.

Why did I join HBSA?
The familia aspect you gain from HBSA is not matched by any other organization on campus. My first few days being at ASU I realized it’s easy to get lost within such a large university. Everything was intimidating and I had a hard time finding a sense of belonging. However, after going to my first HBSA event I instantly gained a sense of place. Everybody’s greeting you as soon as you walk in, making the effort to get to know you, I was quickly reminded of family back home. HBSA is filled with people who support you, encourage you, and genuinely want to see you succeed. I've been given many professional opportunities and have been blessed with making many deep-rooted friendships because of HBSA.

Why did I join HBSA?
Walking into my first class as a freshman I instantly felt isolated. I tried making friends but the people I met would disappear the next day we had class so I decided to walk out of my comfort zone and explore some clubs. The moment I found out about HBSA I decided to give it a shot and go to one of the general meetings and the moment I walked in it instantly felt like home. Everyone was so kind, welcoming, and had similar experiences so we all related in many ways but most importantly we are all one big familia.

Why did I join HBSA?
When I transferred to ASU, I was looking for a group of people who shared the same work ethic, background, and drive that I have. HBSA ended up becoming that space and so much more. It gave me community, support, and the kind of motivation that doesn’t come from just being in class. That’s what made me stay.

Why did I join HBSA?
I joined HBSA because, in my hometown, I rarely saw Hispanic individuals represented in leadership or professional roles. When I attended my first HBSA meeting it introduced me to high-achieving students and learned about successful Hispanic professionals, this not only broadened my perspective but also made me feel welcomed and inspired.

Collegiate Success Coordinator

Why did I join HBSA?
I joined HBSA because of the strong sense of unity felt within its community. The first time I knew about HBSA was during a tabling event, where I met some of its members, and in the short time I was able to speak with them, they instilled a strong sense of belonging in me. From that moment on, I felt like this was my place away from home. As I became more integrated, I realized the vast opportunities available within the club, which encouraged me even more to stay and be part of HBSA. This family, in addition to its great community, provides you with opportunities for your own growth—personally, professionally, socially, and, of course, for building your own network. Thanks to this club, I've grown immensely in just one year, for which I'm very grateful and hope to give back my best.
